Online Privacy - Googling Yourself

I thought I would share a quick story regarding my recent discovery of a site called naymz.com.

I stumbled upon this site while doing a search for myself on Google. It was, in fact, the number one result for me. Intrigued, I checked out the site. One click and the site loads up a page that shows all kinds of private information about me. My current address information, my last 5 residences over the past 15 years. Things I had forgotten, it was now showing front and center for the world to read.

There were also links to purchase additional information, like my phone number/contact info, as well as my exact address, etc.

It caught me a bit off guard. I am typically one who does not like to share too much personal information about myself online. I'm a hermit, so to speak... Well fortunately after reading through the FAQ, I found out that you can easily remove your profile from the site by simply clicking on the link that says "This is me" and then click the remove button.

Worked like a charm, and my profile was removed immediately, no approval or review process necessary.

Moral of the story? Google yourself every now and then. You never know what you'll find, or what others are finding out about you!
